Course of Fire

The drill starts at the 25 yard line with a standard plate rack. On the timer, draw and knock down two plates, run down and manually reset them, run back up and knock down 4 plates, run down and manually reset them then return to the 25 yd line and shoot all six plates. The goal is to do it clean I'm under a minute.

This drill is a form of stress inoculation. It will show you how your body responds to skill tasks while in your anaerobic respiratory zone. The goal is to get your heart rate in the 160 BPM realm and see its effect. I found that more than the physiological deficit, it throws my timing way off. The reason being that my mind still functions at the same rate but my body does not respond at the same rate. My mind is giving commands to my body faster than my body can execute them and it forces me to stow down dramatically in order to perform the tasks in the proper sequence.

I would rather shoot it clean at a slower pace and build the proper mental/physiological timing and control than try and burn it down and get a random good time with a bunch of really sloppy runs in between.
