Have a training partner load your magazine with a mix of live rounds and dummy rounds. Using a small target, fire as accurately as possible. If you jerk the trigger on a dummy round, stop and fire 5-10 perfect deliberate rounds with perfect trigger control.
Excellent for diagnosing flinching and grip issues, the Ball and Dummy Drill is a fundamental exercise designed to improve trigger control and eliminate flinching, which is a common issue that negatively impacts accuracy. This drill involves loading your firearm with a mix of live rounds and dummy (inert) rounds in a random sequence. The shooter is unaware of when a live round will be fired, making it an effective way to identify and correct anticipation and flinching.
The Ball and Dummy Drill is particularly useful for new shooters and those struggling with flinching or trigger jerking. Regular practice helps develop smoother trigger control, enhances concentration on the fundamentals, and promotes consistent, accurate shooting.
